High Skills Mountain Bike Camp
Ages 11-14

Our high-skills camp for mountain bikers is a definite step up from a typical mountain bike camp. This camp is for riders that are experienced with single track riding, including ascents and descents as well as obstacles. If your rider fits this description and is looking to level up their skills, this one-week session is for them.. Our approach to MTB skill development is to establish rock-solid fundamental movement patterns and then learn to apply these patterns to any and all trail elements. As such, the movement patterns we teach and train scale from whoa to go, mild to extreme, without the need to re-learn new “tricks” to overcome a change in terrain, difficulty, size or steepness.

As the focus of this camp is mountain bike skill development, trail rides are chosen to provide the chance to practise specific skills (and for fun!), rather than focussing on endurance. Some other camp activities are included, but the main focus of this camp is mountain bike skills.

For the fifth year running, this camp is run by Hardwood’s own Mountain Bike Pro, Michael Houlden, with assistance from our higher-skilled returning bike counsellors. His approach to MTB skill development is to establish rock-solid fundamental movement patterns and then learn to apply these patterns to any and all trail elements. Our methodology is grounded in the Global Unified Theory of Shred established by Lee McCormack of Lee Likes Bikes, the original GOAT of MTB skills training and author of 7 editions of “Mastering Mountain Bike Skills”. Our MTB Pro has a close relationship with Lee and regularly confers on training techniques, skills and philosophy.
